Guernsey Clematis Nursery

Jackmanii Superba

Category: Our Clematis

Introduced and raised by Jackmans of Woking in 1878. Many plants are sold under this name including cl. x jackmanii and cl. 'Gipsy Queen'. As a production plant, it is not so easy to produce as the latter two cultivars, the true plant being quite distinct. The four tepals are broader than in cl. x jackmanii, almost square in appearance and a deeper rich purple at the point of opening, fading with age. Greenish cream anthers. Otherwise its habit is the same, except the leaves are generally simple, rather than trifoliate as in cl. x jackmanii.
